Join our expert astronomer Michael Andre Phillips of Siding Spring Observatory for an ‘out of this world’ stargazing experience using state of the art telescopes and a laser pointer.
His journey will include naked-eye Astronomy, tips and hacks on identifying stars and constellation storytelling, introduction to the celestial dance of planets, satellites, navigation, the Universe, Galaxy and beyond.
You will then observe through the professional-grade telescope objects such as the Moon and its craters and seas, Saturn’s rings, the moons of Jupiter, Mars and Venus, the Orion Nebula, star clusters, double and triple stars, deep space objects such as galaxies and the fabulous Milky Way. You might even see shooting stars if you are lucky!
Your expert guide will delve into the study of every object and answer all your questions.
Dates: Sunday 17th May 2026 – Friday 22nd May 2026
Times: Both a 6:30pm session and 8:30pm Session – 1.5 duration.
Location: Around the ‘Flagstaff / Signal Point’ area of the CBD – Final location depends on the wind strength and direction. Look out for our telescopes!
Wet Weather: If we are unlucky enough to have heavy rain or cloud, our astronomer will direct you to the Lord Howe Island Community Hall for a astronomy talk and visual presentation.
Transport: Transport home is available if required
