The Future of Lord Howe’s Starry Nights Lecture

From: $25.00

OK, so you’re here for a Dark Sky Festival — but what does that actually mean?

In this lecture, Marnie Ogg, founder of the Australasian Dark Sky Alliance will unpack what a Dark Sky Place really is, why these special locations are recognised around the world, and why Lord Howe Island has a unique role to play.

Marnie will explain what light pollution is, how it affects wildlife, human health and our ability to see the stars. She’ll also discuss why it’s become one of the fastest growing environmental pressures of our time.

Most importantly, Marnie will explore how each of us can help protect natural darkness. Simple changes in how we use light at night can transform the way we experience our environment and help safeguard the Island’s night skies for future generations.
